The Southside Six 2017: Update

We are very disappointed to announce that The Southside Six 2017 will not be taking place.

Concerns were raised by Glasgow City Council’s Land & Environmental Services and they currently will not allow an event on public roads without road closures – which for The Southside Six is not an option.

We believe that we provide sufficient measures to prevent inconvenience or danger to the public or runners – and that the evidence of the last 6 years back this up – but this has not been enough to gain the required permissions.

We will continue to discuss the concerns raised with the relevant authorities in the hope that The Southside Six will return again in the future.

We have had a fantastic time over the years, from creating the route in 2010 to becoming one of the most sought after entries in the Scottish race calendar. Although the event is not taking place we are proud that the course is now an established part of many people’s training routines.

We would like to thank everyone who has made The Southside Six a success – the runners, supporters and especially the volunteers who have given up their time every year to be part of a fantastic community event.

As we are now free on the 5th November we might (with some training) run the route ourselves for a change!

The Southside Six 2016

2016-stampWe are happy to announce that, subject to relevant permissions being granted, The Southside Six 2016 will take place on Sunday 6th November.

We will open for entries on entrycentral on the evening of Monday 29th February at 9:30pm. From previous experience we expect demand to be high so make sure you attempt to get in as close as possible to the opening time.

If you don’t get a place at this time, be sure to join the waiting list as we make more spaces available from the list when entrants withdraw throughout the year.

Set those alarms and Good Luck!

Another Broken Record!

tctfnThe Southside Six are happy to announce that we have paid our bills for this year and are in a position to donate a record £1,400 to charity.

For the second year in a row this is thanks to our first placed super veteran George Taylor, who has kindly donated £500 to be added to our contribution.

George is one of the few who have run all five years of The Southside Six – holding the Veteran course record between 2011 and 2013.

Of this year’s donation, he says:

“The main reason for the donation this year is the friendship and support the run gives competitors. I’ve had what is best described as a difficult year and nearly didn’t run. The decision to run proved to be the correct one and I want to thank the organisers, volunteers, runners and supporters”.

Funding Neuro will be the main beneficiaries, with a cheque for £900 making it’s way to them. Funding Neuro have been a great help to The Southside Six; providing goodies for the race pack, helping with transport logistics and organising the marshals of Pollok Park.

We are also donating £500 to The Teenage Cancer Trust who are the chosen charity of George.

Thanks again to all who took part in this year’s event, whether running, supporting or volunteering. It is only with the help of everyone involved that we are able to make The Southside Six a success.
