Yorgo goes Running!

The Southside Six had an unexpected entrant on Sunday, Yorgo the Dog!

Yorgo was born a stray on the Greek Island of Lesvos where some holidaymakers fell in love with him and brought him back to live in Scotland. He was later adopted by his current owners Marie and Frank of Stamperland, Glasgow.

He was happily relaxing on the couch on Sunday morning when he heard a commotion outside and decided to join the crowds running past his home. He sneaked by Frank, who was repairing the garden fence, and happily jogged along Clarkston Road with the runners.

The Glasgow Courier Club cyclists marshalling that section tried to catch him but he outwitted them and continued on to Eastwood Toll, following the runners through Rouken Glen Park and onwards to Thornliebank!

When Frank realised his four-legged friend had scampered away he gave chase too. Lots of frantic phone calls ensued between Marie, the race marshals and race HQ leading to more failed attempts at capture!

He was eventually caught in Pollok Country Park by race marshalls Cindy McNeill and Kathleen Murray who quickly phoned Marie to come and collect Yorgo, and an exhausted Frank!

Like many of the The Southside Six runners that day, Yorgo returned home to some good food, a drink and a long rest!

Maybe next year we can persuade Marie or Frank to accompany Yorgo?
